About us

HSM Industri A/S was founded on 15 April 1975 by Esben Møller under the name of Hammelev Smedie (smithy).

When he was an apprentice smith and only 19 years old, Esben Møller took over his master's business. Soon the business outgrew its premises and a couple of years later he built a new smithy.

At the beginning, the majority of customers were farmers with agricultural equipment that needed repair, but soon the client base increased to include large industrial businesses in Grenaa. More people were hired, followed by a new extension of the premises in Hammelev.

A few years later, the business had once again outgrown it premises, and it moved to the current premises in Bredstrupvej, Grenaa, in April 1997. Today, the client base has increased significantly both in Denmark and abroad, involving multifarious tasks. Today, our staff consists of approx. 150 employees.

About our history and milestones:

Our 1,600 m2 surface treatment facility is put into operation.

Opera Pavilion
We become the turnkey contractor for an opera pavilion for the Opera in Copenhagen. The pavilion is a gift from the A.P. Møller Foundation to the Copenhagen Municipality. C. F. Møller designs the pavilion with copper cladding on the outside. Internally, the ceiling is covered with oak which is broken by a beautiful skylight with an integrated steel star. Two water buses can call at the Opera Pavilion at once and via a copper-cladded gangway, passengers can disembark dryshod. The pavilion was shipped by barge from the Port of Grenaa to the capital.

We expand with a 1,200 m2 assembly hall.

Grenaa Shipyard
We buy Grenaa Shipyard which becomes an independent subsidiary of HSM Industri A/S. Kenny Mathiessen, who is appointed new day-to-day manager, comes from a position as project manager at HSM Industri.

The Culture Yard in Helsingør
We win the steel contract for the highly extravagant Culture Yard in Helsingør which is designed by Aart Architects, Aarhus.

Our technical department prepares the detailed drawings for the construction steel as well as the roof and facade structures in pyramid and diamond shaped designs. All the special and complex structures are produced by our factory and ready-mounted by our own fitters at the Culture Yard.

Total use of steel: 650 tonnes.

Copenhagen Central Station
In January, we win the steel contract for the renovation of steel structures at the Copenhagen Central Station. This is a task requiring 90,000 working hours for the next two years. It is our largest single order ever – twice as big as the contract for the Ny Ellebjerg Station in Valby.

Ny Ellebjerg Station in Valby
We win the steel contract which includes bridges, lift towers, stairs, etc. for the Ny Ellebjerg Station. Two of the steel structures are 43 m long and weigh 120 tonnes.

The station is to be the future junction for public transport in the capital area and our bridge construction is an important element of this plan. E. Phil & Søn A/S is turnkey contractor in the Pihl-Aarsleff J.V consortium.

We join the owners of BP Electric A/S

BP Electric is a modern company that handles all types of electrical installation projects – from minor rebuilding and extension projects to large, complex commercial and industrial installation projects. BP Electric A/S has divisions in Grenaa, Nimtofte and Aarhus.

We buy a share of GSM (Grenaa Smedie & Maskinfabrik).

GSM A/S is a machine works with all-round machinery that enables us to solve most of the tasks within steel structures and machine constructions.

Furthermore, Basolith mounts and welds all types of plastic materials for CO2 air vents as well as automatic and manual chemical stations.

We acquire our first experience with oil.
